Election Eve

Well, the elections are over and the results now finalised. Last week in the lead up, during the height of the media driven campaign, the 'church' was asked whether it should have a political opinion, and if so, how should 'Christians' vote? Apparently there was no single, authoritative answer given, at least not that I heard. Surely it is the duty of a Christian, in a democratic country, to choose carefully, examining the moral and ethical stance of all parties? Surely we must be guided by such things....but apparently not. Do we just accept the claims of both major party leaders, that they are Christians or do we examine their walk, their speech and their integrity before validating their vote-catching claims?
I know that there are powers and agendas at work in politics which go way deeper than we will ever be allowed to see. I know that in these times, Satan has powerful men and stooges where he wants them, throughout the world, in preparation for antichrist to be revealed. The Lord knows. But I pray for and respect our leaders, whether good or evil, as we are commanded in Scripture to do (Romans 13, I Peter 2:13-17, 1 Timonthy 2:1-4) that some may turn and be saved.
We know also from Scripture that man's choice is often not God's choice. This is evident in the choosing of Saul as King, again later after the death of Solomon, when the kingdom was divided on account of Israel choosing Jeroboam, who was not the rightful heir. We ultimately get what we deserve.
There is a sense that hard times are ahead, with rising fuel prices, interest rates and hints of world recession on the horizon. But I dwell on Jesus' words in John 16:33. He has overcome the world, and what is more, He will be back to reign over every nation. We are not to fear the days to come. He is our hiding place and Redeemer. He is our Provider. And although we must live bodily in this world, and go about our business here, remember that we are not global citizens, dear brethren. Our citizenship is in Zion, our kingdom is elsewhere.
Trust Him alone for the times ahead.

Excellent post Bonnie so true. Here in America we are in a right pickle when it comes to elections, because right now there doesn't seem to be anyone worth voting for. Still me must stop and remember that it is God that puts men in power, it is God that moves on people's hearts to do His will, so we will get who we deserve as a nation, my hope are not high in man, because I don't place my trust in man but in God as do you.
God Bless

Although I am reserved in voicing my political opinion publicly, the government we have just voted in is immoral and criminal, run by the unions who are grounded in organised crime and freemasonry. Our states are all run by Labor governments as well, so now we will see the entire nation collapse economically, unemployment will rise and so will interest rates....we will see further moral decay and I believe that true Christians will begin to experience the application of anti-discrimination laws....just my speculations. You will get Hilary next elections by the looks of things? I am glad that my citizenship is not of this world and that my time here is temporary. Lord, may we hold on to Truth. Sometimes this means going against government, if it means choosing between God and man. Thanks Helen!

I was interested to note that one of the major issues in this election campaign was climate change. The liberal Government were branded as climate change sceptics by Labor who are going to rush to sign the kyoto agreement, I suspect purely to appease the many people who have been deceived by the scare tactics of the climate change scaremongers. The facts of the matter are that it is not in the best interests of this country to do so however our new Government appears to be willing to do anything, good, bad or indifferent to win votes.

I am interested that Mr Rudd is being touted as a Christian. I wonder what sort? A true bible believing Christian or a new age christian? Time will tell. Perhaps if he knew his bible a little better he would understand that it is God who will bring this earth to a close, NOT man.

Man may well be able to claim the effects of carbon emissions and other polluting effects, but ultimately it will be God who finishes it off.

My hope is in my Saviour Jesus Christ who will take me to a place with no such problems. Take heed, he is coming soon. COME LORD JESUS!
Hope

In Hebrews 1:11, Paul reminds us that '(the earth) will wax old as doth a garment, and as a vesture shalt thou fold them up'. In other words, it will wear out like an old singlet and be thrown out! Whilst it is right to care for the earth and not be greedy or wasteful, or cruel, all the best efforts of man can not save this earth. Maranatha!

Hi Bonny, this is Amy from Homeward Bound, and I just wanted to say how nice it is to see your photo. :)Now when I see your comments I can picture you! From your description of yourself, as well as your articles here and comments on Homeward Bound, you sound like someone I would love to know. I only have dial up Internet, so it's ridiculous to think about making my own blog right now, but you and Helen inspire me to pray about the idea. I really appreciate you.
